Sham Contracting - Payroll Tax Amnesty

The PSAQ has recently received a letter from the Office of State Revenue, regarding a payroll tax amnesty.

The amnesty is an "opt in" process, with paperwork that needs to be completed (by employers) by 31 March 2009 for the amnesty to apply.

Details of the amnesty, and the appropriate paperwork, can be obtained from www.osr.qld.gov.au.

The PSAQ expects that once the amnesty expires, it may be followed up with an Office of State Revenue compliance audit.

This process may have implications for employees who (incorrectly) believe they are engaged as contractors.

We would encourage any real estate salesperson or property management worker who has concerns about such issues to contact Barry Gannon or Tom French at the PSAQ.
