The PSAQ has just become the first-ever organisation registered as a Federal union for real estate salespeople.
In addition to its existing role in the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission, Federal registration now enables the PSAQ to represent the interests of its members and potential members in the Australian Industrial Relations Commission (AIRC).
Being in this new position is important for two reasons:
- in the case of disputes, the PSAQ now has the automatic right to represent those of its members who are employed by corporations under Federal legislation; and
- with a Federal award currently being developed to cover the real estate industry, Federal registration enables the PSAQ to have a strong voice in this process.
Please Note I: Due to the requirement for property management employees in Queensland to be registered as real estate salespeople, the PSAQ will now also be able to represent property management employees at a Federal level.
Please Note II: While approval for the PSAQ's Federal registration has been given by the AIRC, the approval will only take effect once it is gazetted. This is anticipated to occur in late March or early April 2009.
